Hi, my name is 'Jellie' Richardson and I'm from a small town in Arkansas called St. Joe. We have had a major tragedy in our area in the past two years. One of my families closests friends' son comitted suicide just two years ago December 6. It all started when he graduated from high school and was planning to go to college at a small community college just North of where we live. He planned to go and play basketball there as did some of his other classmates. As all colleges have, he was on the cut list so he did not get to play. That really got his hopes down because his father is reallly into basketball and had his son's hopes way up there. After this he was admitted to the psychiatric hospital in Little Rock for numerous reasons including being cut from the basket ball team. After a three months stay there, doctors began to see a change and released him. He then applied to be in the Reserve. The admittance office told him that he was over weight, so he worked out for a while and went back but the admittance office kept telling him he was over weight. The real reason which he came to find out was that he had previosly been enrolled in a 'mental' hospital. This brought him back down to his dipression point. No-one could really tell that he was doing so bad because when you saw him, he was the same cheery self he had been all his life. You could see him and he would say hi and strike up a conversation but there were no signs of depression shining through. His brother which I will call 'bob' was and is currently enrolled at the University of Arkansas, Fayettville, where he played as a walk-on for the Arkansas Razorbacks. When bob got accepted on the team this really brought his brothers hopes down because it reminded him of when he didn't make the team. He seemed to be doing fine and later he started to go to Fayettville with bob and stay. One weeekend bob and he came home to watch their sister play basketball in a tournament.
